Varsity office hours!

Some of our varsity team members have graciously volunteered to give up some of their time outside of practice so that other team members can get more work in!

Some things to note:

  1. You must sign up using the link below at least 24-hours in advance of your session.
  2. The practice schedule will be updated weekly and sessions will be available on a first-come, first-served basis
  3. This does not mean you are exempt from regular practices or from signing up for a weekly coaching session during practice times.
Here is the link:

Practice Sign-Ups for week of 2/23

Follow this link to sign up for practice sessions next week. You must sign up for one (and only one) slot. Remember that regardless of your session time, you must be present for the entire practice unless you have notified us by E-mail that you will be absent/late.

This document will become "view only" after noon on Sunday, after which you will have to E-mail us to get a slot.

Practice 2/23 and 2/26

P.S. If you would like a second slot next week, you can E-mail us with that request as well. We will give those out, as time allows, on a first come, first served basis.

Eastview Saturday, February 21st

Star Tribune Lightning Speech Classic presented by the Eastview High School Speech Team. Our tournament will take place on Saturday, February 21, 2015, at Eastview High School and Valley Middle School in Apple Valley, MN.  All 13 MSHSL categories will be open to registration and we will allow NFL rules where applicable.  Like we have done for the past two years at our tournament, we will offer two divisions of competition: Open and Championship. Open division is for your less-experienced speakers (this is9th-10th graders or first year in speech, not a new category) and Championship is geared towards your more experienced speakers (Juniors and Seniors).  This way, everyone will compete with competition at their level.  Students may not compete in different divisions.  Double Entries are welcome (even in discussion).  However, students are not allowed to double enter into two draw categories.   Each division will have a final round.  We also will have honorable mentions at the awards ceremonyfor those that just miss the final round.
To avoid less-than-desirable speaking rooms, we are going to be utilizing two buildings.  Valley Middle School in Apple Valley will house our Open division and Eastview High School will hold our Championship division.  However, BOTH DIVISIONS OF EXTEMP SPEAKING WILL TAKE PLACE AT EASTVIEW.

PRACTICE SIGN UPS FOR 2/18,19

Here is the link to sign up for PA and Interp practice on Wednesday (2/18) and Thursday (2/19). You MUST sign up for a slot on one of the days, and you may not sign up for more than one. Regardless of which day you sign up for, you should be at practice for the full two hours. If you are unable to attend practice either day or will be late or need to leave early, you need to let us know, via E-mail ahead of time.

The practice slots will close on Tuesday at noon, so be
sure you have signed up for a slot before then.

If the only slots that you could make are full, please make a note below the sign up and send us an E-mail with them time you would be able to work. A slot that is blacked out is not available.

If you have any questions or concerns, please E-mail us sooner rather than later!

Communication Improvements!

In order to improve communication between students, parents and coaches, we have added several new applications to our social media repertoire.

First, we have created a Facebook group that students and parents can join. Unlike our Facebook page, the group will send members a notification to their phone any time something new is posted. Here is a link to the Facebook Group.

Second, we have created an account with Remind101. For folks not on Facebook, this will serve the same purpose as the Facebook group. All you have to do is follow the instructions in the image below and you will start getting updates any time we post a message.

This blog will still be the main method of disseminating information, but we felt we needed a secondary vehicle that included reminders to ensure that communication was more fluid. Most messages we send out will simply be reminders to check the blog for information regarding practices, tournaments, and social events.

Neither of these new tools is mandatory, but we hope you find them helpful!

As always, the best method for contacting us is through our E-mail at Speech.Edina@gmail.com. Please let us know if you have questions or concerns.

Best,
M and E

Lakeville South

We will be going to the Lakeville South Tournament on February 14th!  This will be a great tournament for us to do well at.  It is a small tournament and we should do well at it!  This is updated to the tournament schedule!

Apple Valley

LOCATIONS: All NOVICE events will be held at Falcon Ridge Middle School with the exception of novice extemporaneous speaking, which will be held at Apple Valley High School. All VARSITY events will be held at Apple Valley High School with the exception of varsity discussion, which will be held at Falcon Ridge Middle School. This allows the tournament to accommodate only double entries in events held at the same site. Since extemporaneous speakers often share files, both divisions are in one building. Discussion will be at Falcon because it is not eligible for double entering.

Practice Schedule, week of 2/2

Click the link below to view this week's practice schedule.

Some notes:
1. There are two sheets; one for Interp today, and one for PA on Thursday.
2. Just because you are expected to attend the ENTIRE practice regardless of when you are scheduled to work with coaches.
3. Remember that PA works with captains on Mondays and Interp works with captains on Thursdays, so you are expected to be at both days of practice.
4. This schedule doesn't include Extemp.
